Maria studied painting, sculpture, History of Art, Architectonic drawing, marble-carving, wood-carving & Byzantine icon-painting in Greece.(1979-81). From her Athens-based studio she produced Cretan-style icons from 1982 to 1989, while teaching Byzantine iconography and experimenting with various other forms of arts & crafts. Award-winner for her icon of Christ the Pantokrator at the Young Artists Biennial, Athens 1988 (Parnassus Art Society), several of Maria's original icons were commissioned & reproduced under international copyright licence by Athens-based art company Apergis, these works since serving as prototypes for icon-painters worldwide. Many of her icons, other paintings and art objects are in private collections in Greece and other countries, from America to Japan. Lived in the UK between 1989-95 (Member of the Silbury Group of Artists, exhibiting in Milton Keynes). Moved to Greece in 1995 and worked as an illustrator & author, producing icons, portraits, animal art (dogs & horses), other paintings, objects & sculptures. Maria moved to Ireland in 2005 and she is living and working in Co. Cavan. Since 2005 she has had numerous solo & group exhibitions and has given lectures & workshops on Egg-Tempera & Iconography for various public groups, schools & cultural organisations. Living in Bawnboy, by Templeport Lake, Maria is involved in many local community projects; her artwork features in several public areas, buildings & walks in the stunning local landscape.
